The Polished Paper is seeking exceptionally talented editors to fill the following positions:

Contract editor

Contract editors are an integral part of The Polished Paper’s editing team. Such editors may work from home anywhere in the world and need not work shifts—they simply claim the assignments they wish to complete. Contract editors are compensated per word edited; documents that require shorter turnaround times offer higher rates of pay.

You are the ideal candidate for a Polished Paper contract editor if . . .

•  You are an expert grammarian, deeply mindful of the subtleties of punctuation and phrasing—or you are skilled at English communication and are willing to become an expert.

•  You have a native command of English and are familiar with or willing to learn the idiosyncrasies of the language in its various regional forms: American, British, Canadian, and Australian.

•   You are familiar with the use of one or more academic styles (e.g., APA, Chicago, MLA, CSE) and are willing to learn to work in styles unfamiliar to you.

•   You are a meticulous reader, capable of catching all errors in a text, no matter how small.

•   You are a hard worker who is willing to complete 12 or more edits per semimonthly pay period.

Requirements: Contract editors must have a recent version of Microsoft Word. Familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat or a recent version of Adobe Reader is a plus.

Application Process: To give us an idea of what you can do, we ask that you supply a résumé and then try your hand at our two-part editing test. The first part poses 35 multiple-choice questions on grammar and style. Applicants who score well enough will be asked to conduct a brief sample edit.
